Obituary of Evelyn Mary Greco
Holyoke, MA and Brewer, ME—Evelyn M. Greco, 94, passed away December 2, 2020, in Bangor, Maine. She was born March 14, 1926, the daughter of Polish immigrants Walter and Lena Manijak.
Evelyn was born in Holyoke where she was raised by her grandmother during the great depression. She spoke Polish before she ever learned English. She was a faithful Catholic and lifelong communicant at Mater Dolorosa Parish. She grew up attending Holyoke Catholic schools and made sure her children did also. When Evelyn was 16, World War II began and she left school to join the war effort. Following the war, she met Charlie Greco at a big band era dance. The couple married in 1947 and enjoyed a loving marriage that lasted 69 years, until his passing in 2016. Following his death, Evelyn moved to Maine to live with her granddaughter.
Evelyn is survived by daughter Patricia Caler and husband Leo of Bangor, ME; son Thomas Greco and wife Mary of Venice, FL; grandson Ryan Cahill of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Pamela Klekotka and husband Justin Mugnai, who provided a loving home for Evelyn the last four years of her life.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, where Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com
