Obituary of Alfred J. Greenlaw

Alfred J. Greenlaw Orrington & Stonington - Alfred J. Greenlaw, 66, husband of Donna (Bernard) Greenlaw, died unexpectedly, July 18, 2016 in Stonington while visiting family. He was born April 24, 1950 in Castine, the son of Valmore "Jim" M. and Nellie A. (Davis) Greenlaw.Alfred graduated from Stonington High School in 1968 and from the University of Maine in 1975 and he proudly served with the US Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked for many years for the State of Maine in Child Support Enforcement. Some of his fondest memories were of the time he spent working with his father lobster fishing. Alfred was a Maine Troop Greeter in Bangor and was a member of the American Legion in Bangor. He was a longtime communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Bangor and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pine Cone Council, Bangor. His roots in Stonington ran deep and he was always happiest when he could return to the place he grew up and spend time with family from near and far. He found joy in his hobbies of beer and wine making, gardening, and was a longtime season ticket holder for The University of Maine Men's Hockey program. His three girls were his pride and joy. He could always be found in the front row at all of their sporting events. He adored his two granddaughters, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandson. Surviving in addition to his wife, Donna of Orrington are three daughters, Erin Fish and her husband, Jason of Holden, Meryl McCarthy and her husband, Ian of Old Town and Taylor Pierce and her husband, Andrew of Brewer; two grandchildren, Lillian and Hadley Fish and one grandson due next month; one brother, Roger Greenlaw and his wife, Arlene of Stonington; three sisters, Darlene Lepoff and her husband, Jonathan of Monmouth, Gail Chamberlin and her husband, Dr. Dennis Chamberlin of Deer Isle and Roberta Johnson and her husband, Stephen of Stonington; several nieces, nephews and cousins including Jeff Olson and Rick Hernan with whom he was very close. Family and friends may visit 5 – 7 PM Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. Burial with military honors will be afterward at Greenwood Cemetery, Stonington.
