Obituary of Carmeline R Vashon

Carmen Vashon, 78, of Hermon, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Carmen was born June 11, 1946, in Waterville, to Antonio and Hattie (Deschaine) Roy. She was raised along with her brother Reginald in Waterville. She graduated from Mount Merici Academy in 1964 and Thomas College in 1966 with an associate degree in secretarial science. 

 

 

During Carmen’s employment years, she worked at Colby College, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, and C.F. Hathaway Shirt Co. Later, she worked several part-time jobs. She also volunteered many hours assisting with youth ministry at St. Agnes Church in Pittsfield, St. Mary’s Funeral Ministry, and The Attic Thrift Store.

 

 

She met her husband, Jim, in 1980 and they were married on May 14, 1983. During that time, they lived in Plymouth with Jim’s two sons, Tim and Adam. When their daughter Katherine “Katie” was born in June of 1984, Carmen retired and dedicated her life to raising their family. In 1995, the family moved to Hermon. Carmen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her greatest love was her family. She was a faithful communicant and maintained a steadfast and committed relationship with her church. 

 

 

Carmen is survived by her husband, Jim; stepchildren, Tim and Kami, Adam and Jen; grandchildren, Jack and Alex; brothers-in-law, Wayne Vashon and Barb, Msgr. Randall Vashon; nieces Debra Roy and Guy, Janet Roy, Karen Adams, Carol Jeanne O’Reilly and Sean; nephews Lance Vashon and Reg Roy; great niece Kirsten Philbrook and family. She is also survived by her childhood friend Sue (Bourque) Aucoin and close friend Carol Metivier. She was predeceased by her parents; brother; daughter, Katie. 

 

 

The family wishes to thank the incredible staff at St. Joseph Homecare and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Katie Vashon Family Sponsorship Fund, c/o Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Street, Casco, ME  04015, or your charity of choice.

 

 

Family and friends may visit 4-6 P.M., Monday, January 27, 2025, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 A.M., Tuesday, January 28, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St, Bangor. The funeral Mass will be live-streamed from the parish website. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.  A luncheon will be held after the mass.
