Obituary of William John Kaine
William (Bill) John Kaine of Orrington passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at home. He was surrounded by his wife of 58 years, Linda, and his son, Jeff and daughter, Lisa.
Bill was born in Vanceboro, ME, on June 22, 1944, to Wilfred and Ethel Trott. Bill had one sister, Suzann Sangster, whom predeceased him in 2016.
After graduating from Vanceboro High School, Bill attended Husson College and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. In 1966, he started his job at the Internal Revenue Service, a position he held until his retirement in 2000. Shortly after retirement, Bill decided he wanted a part time job to fill up some of his spare time so he worked at Bangor International Airport as a TSA Agent.
During his 80 years of life, Bill and Linda lived in Bangor, Presque Isle, Brewer and finally settled in Orrington for 45+ years.
Bill enjoyed golfing and was often found golfing with many lifelong friends at Rocky Knoll in Orrington. At one point he even started a Seniors League that went from a group of approximately four to more than 40. Bill and Linda spent their winters in Myrtle Beach, SC, where Bill joined a golfing league and met many new golfing friends. Bill and Linda loved the time that they spent in Myrtle Beach trying out new restaurants, shopping, and exploring with their many friends. When Bill could no longer golf or travel to Myrtle Beach due to health issues, he became an avid bird watcher spending many hours on his porch or in his sunroom watching and researching birds. He also loved a good cup of coffee and was often joined by friends and neighbors for a good cup of “joe” and long lasting conversations. Bill had an amazing sense of humor and his passing will leave a major void in many people’s lives.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Jeff of Hermon; daughter Lisa and lifelong partner Mike of Wilmington, NC. He also leaves behind a very special niece, Sheri Messer, and her husband, Corey; nephew, Jason Sangster, all of McAdam, NB, Canada, along with several friends that have become like family over the years.
Bill was predeceased by a son, Sean, in 1973; his mother, father and stepfather; sister Suzann; Susan and Joe Conrad; special aunt, Margaret McCarthy; along with many friends.
Bills family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their amazing support during his final days. For those who would like to remember Bill in a special way, please do so by donating to the Bangor Humane Society, the Audubon Society or to Gentiva Hospice.
In his final days Bill kept saying he wanted to have a party so a party we will have in May with Bill as the guest of honor. A celebration of life will be held May 2, 2025 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service. Refreshments will follow at Jeff’s Catering. A reminder notice will be posted in the Bangor Daily News prior to that time.
