Obituary of Patrick J. Geaghan
Patrick J. Geaghan, 65, passed away surrounded by family on June 20, 2024. He was born September 21, 1958, the son of John M. Geaghan and Arline (Harvey) Geaghan.
Patrick, Pat, Geaghan was born in Bangor and spent nearly the entirety of his life as a Brewer resident. As a child, he grew up on Washington Street with his large family. The eighth of eleven children, Pat would form many close and treasured bonds with his siblings that would last a lifetime. Even at a young age, Pat’s goodhearted yet mischievous nature was apparent. He enjoyed the neighborhood immensely, exploring as a child and traversing the same streets as he grew older, and would eventually return to settle down there.
After holding several jobs as a young man, Pat would find his way back to his family’s restaurant where he would make a career over the next several decades. He took pride in working hard at work worth doing and endeavored to bring the same level of integrity and care that his parents and siblings supplied to the business. He worked with many people over the years, and he undoubtedly left an impression on most of them. Whether for better or for worse, whether he was stern or humorous, Pat always hoped to lead by example and do the right things for the people around him and the business. To do the right things simply because they were the right things. Even with getting to know so many people from so many walks of life, Pat was always quick to recall a name, say hello, and ask how things were. It was important to him for people to feel as seen and respected as they were in his eyes. Pat was tenacious, smart, quick with a joke, and quicker with a kind word, measured, caring, stubborn, and silly. These were some of the countless attributes that had drawn his beloved wife, Brenda, to him early on. The two would go on to fall for one another and build a happy, loving, devoted life together.
His care and commitment to family would become even more apparent as he built his life. Family was the most important thing to him, and he considered his close friends and those in his community to be family as well. Pat would never hesitate to help anyone in any way he could, going to the ends of the earth and back for those closest to him. He spent his years looking after his wife and daughter, devoted to both and willing to do anything for either of them. This deep dedication would be evident when his wife fell ill with a terminal cancer diagnosis. She fought bravely for a year and a half, and Pat never left her side or wavered in his support, strength, or love. He attended every appointment, stayed home to be with her when he wasn’t working, and spent nearly all his own time and energy doing whatever was necessary to provide as much comfort and peace as possible for his wife in her final days. He never stopped fighting for her while she was here, and never stopped loving her after she passed.
During his time as a dedicated caregiver, Pat’s own health began to diminish. Even with health challenges in his final days, his strength, fearlessness, and determination shone through. As he always had, he fought unflinchingly until he could fight no more. Pat is already missed profoundly and unendingly by those that had the pleasure of knowing him, particularly those luckiest to be close to him, and he always will be. His absence will echo in many lives but will forever be palpable to those that loved him most. Pat was a great man, and a good one too.
Patrick was predeceased by his most cherished wife Brenda (Russell) Geaghan; his parents John Geaghan and Arline (Harvey) Geaghan; siblings Kathy, Tim, Dave, Richard, and Terry; and his parents-in-law Richard Russell I and Donna (Springer) Russell. Patrick is survived by his daughter Tara Geaghan and son Jason Danforth. He also leaves behind his surviving siblings; Mike and wife Vivian; Larry and wife Rhonda; Chris and wife Michelle; Carolyn (Mardosa) and husband Michael; Peter and wife Cynthia; his very special Aunt JoAnne Harvey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and very dear friends.
Although his absence is daunting and will be felt by many each day going forward, his family takes comfort knowing he is now able to rest and has been reunited with all his loved ones that have passed before him. Love is unending.
As requested by Patrick, no formal services are planned. A memorial celebration will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s wife Brenda’s memory are requested to be made to Lafayette Family Cancer Institute.
