David Cockburn

Obituary of David WIlliam Cockburn

David William Cockburn passed away on April 16, 2024.

Dave was born on January 8, 1977 in Monticello, Kentucky, the son of Rachael Cockburn and Kenneth Cockburn. He got his first job delivering papers at age 12, and by age 17 had taught himself how to fix computers and began working at a computer store. At age 19, he moved to Florida, before moving to San Francisco for a few years to break into the booming Silicon Valley tech industry, working in the medical technology field.

In 2006, he moved back to Florida, working as an IT director for a bank. The day after Valentine’s Day Dave was at Jack’s Barbecue in St. Augustine and began chatting up a vivacious Texan named Lindy. That night, they listened to Flogging Molly in her car and shared their first kiss. They were married in 2010.

In 2008, Dave and Lindy moved to Dallas, Texas, where Dave began a career in marketing, which he also taught himself. While in Texas, he worked for companies including Texas Instruments and RealPage.

In 2020, after years of dreaming about moving to Maine, Dave and Lindy sold their house in Texas and moved to Bangor, where they bought a small place to live and a big place to build – a gorgeous 1890 Victorian mansion on Bangor’s east side that needed all the love they were going to bring to it. Lindy is determined to see their dream of bringing the house back to life come true.

Dave was smart, funny and kind. He taught himself everything – IT, marketing, banking, home renovation. He loved the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kentucky Wildcats. He loved antiquing with Lindy, old country music and 90s grunge, hats and watches, his dogs, and woodworking. He was an influencer before that was a word. He was loved, deeply, by everyone that met him. Nobody didn’t like Dave.

He is survived by his mother, his wife, his brothers Don and John, his stepdaughters Macy and Ren, and his grandchildren Leela and Margot.
