Obituary of Marilyn S. MacDonald

Marilyn S MacDonald, 85, wife of the late Gary E MacDonald, passed away on April 9, 2024 at Ross Manor in Bangor following a lengthy illness. She was born in Presque Isle, Maine on February 13, 1939, daughter of the late A. Kenneth Adams and Margaret (Drake) Adams.

Marilyn was born and raised in Presque Isle and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1957.  She married her high school sweetheart, Gary, and together they moved to Brewer in 1963 with two young children in tow. Marilyn and Gary raised a family and established a successful local business, CMG Business Machines, where Marilyn spent many hours keeping the books, minding the store and doing the many things it takes to run a small business and raise a family. Later in life, while in her 60s, Marilyn took on a new career in administrative support at Community Health and Counseling in Bangor. She was an avid reader and talented at so many things, including painting, crafts, sewing, cooking and interior design. Her home and gardens were always a source of pride and were enjoyed by all who visited. She truly had the most fun while golfing, playing tennis, skiing and playing cards with family and friends.  Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and dear friend, and will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her two daughters, Angela Poirier with husband, Matt and Tracey Cleaveland with husband, Chris; sister, Cora Sweetwood; Grandchildren, Jessica Shabtai with husband, Josh, Syd Cleaveland and Max Cleaveland; Great grandchildren, Gemma and Miles Shabtai; Daughter-in-law, Kathy MacDonald and several nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Gary “Mouse” MacDonald; her son, Martin “Marty” S. MacDonald and brother, Donald “Billy” Adams.

Her daughters wish to express their gratitude to the staff at Ross Manor and Beacon Hospice Care and especially to the many family members and friends for their loving support through this difficult time.  Charitable contributions in honor of Marilyn can be made to Aroostook House of Comfort, 18 Green Hill Rd, Presque Isle, ME 04769 or online at aroostookhouseofcomfort.org.
