Charles A. Civiello, Sr.
Bangor - Charles A. Civiello, Sr. , 89, a devout Catholic, left our world to be with our Lord and Savior on June 12, 2016 while at home and surrounded by loving family. Charles was born May 17, 1927 in “Little Italy” Millinocket, Maine. Charles was a son of Dennis and Carmella (Primiano) Civiello and was one of twelve children. Charles is survived by sisters Mary Thompson, Lillian Bolduc and Anne Ouellette, and predeceased by Joseph Civiello, Frances Rush, Pauline Rush, Louis Civiello, Michael Civiello, Dr. Frank Civiello, Antoinette Kelley and Father John Civiello.
Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Joyce (Pound) Civiello in 1989. He is survived by their four children, daughter: Patricia Civiello Hardy (grandson Jeffrey Toole, his significant other Jennifer Lamper and his three great granddaughters Amelia, Maegan and Ava; grandson Benjamin and wife Kimberly Toole and great grandson Jayden); son: Dr. Charles Alfred Civiello, Jr and wife Pauline (grandson Doug and Kathleen Civiello, great grand children Shannyn and Samuel, grandson Blake Civiello and Lili Liu, and grandson Colby Civiello); son: Thomas Gerald and wife Carolyn Civiello (grandson Jake Civiello and his wife Meghan, grandson Josh Civiello, grandson Casey Civiello and fiancée Dr. Caitlin Hynes); son: Joseph Scott and wife Jesse Civiello. Charles is also survived by his second wife of 19 happy years, Rosemary Civiello, and her five children and multiple grandchildren including Christopher Madden. He is also survived by his beloved companion pet dog, Lulu.
Charles, also known as Charlie to many, served in Korea and received the World War II Victory Medal as part of Company C of the 6th Army Medical Battalion in Kun-San, Korea. Charlie was very successful working for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, eventually becoming Regional Manager in Worcester, MA. Charlie became disabled at an early age due to rheumatoid arthritis but lived a joyous life full of good food, family and friends. He was a “champion whistler”, a “coach-on-the-field”, “sidewalk superintendent”, and an expert gardener.
Family and friends may visit 5 - 8 pm Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM, Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St, Bangor. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor and a reception to follow immediately afterward at St. Mary’s Church parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
