Obituary of Phyllis A. Smith

Bangor—Phyllis Anne (Infiorati) Smith, 97, died November 12, 2015, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born April 7, 1918, in New London, CT, to Matteo and Kezia (Parker) Infiorati. Phyllis graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1936. She attended the University of Maine, earning a Bachelor’s Degree. She taught at elementary schools in North Conway, NH, and Kittery before settling at Fairmount School in Bangor, where she taught for 25 years. While working, she belonged to the Bangor Education Association, Maine Teacher’s Association, and National Education Association. She retired in 1982. Phyllis was an active communicant at St. John’s Church and a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, L. Edward Smith in 1997, her daughter Judith Smith-Masters, and her sons, Michael and Thomas Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Karam and husband, Butch of Stillwater; eight grandchildren, Kate Cornell, Chris Comer, Sean Comer, Joshua Masters, Kelly Lyons, Jen Rackliffe, Jason Karam and Cindy Smith; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family may call 3 – 5 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Wednesday, November 18, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
