Obituary of Ricci Vincent More
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ricci V. More, 69, of Holden. Ricci passed on March 28, 2024 surrounded by his loving family; after a courageous and brave battle with cancer. Ricci was truly a one of a kind soul who’s silent perseverance, steadfastness, humility, and humor made him the protective, nurturing, and honorable man he was. He was born June 29, 1954 in Jonesport, Maine, the son of Eugene W. and Ellen (Worcester) More. Ricci was a graduate of Brewer High School and earned a degree in Forestry Management from the University of Maine. The entirety of his professional career was with Brewer Public Works, most recently as the Purchasing Agent, where he remained for 45 years until his retirement in 2019.
Ricci enjoyed many years of hunting and fly fishing with his friends and family. From hunting trips for partridge, witnessing his son and grandson get their first deer, and a memorable moose hunt with his nephew Elwin; he always took any opportunity he had to share his knowledge and expertise with those around him. He was an expert storyteller, often sharing fond memories of his childhood downeast with his grandparents, harvesting blueberries, and tales of hunting camp adventures. In recent years he fell in love with Aruba and would frequently be found watching and listening to web cam footage of the waves washing onto Eagle Beach. Memories of vacationing there with his adult children were happy moments he reflected on often.
Ricci was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Bruins and University of Maine Black Bears hockey teams. He never missed an opportunity to watch his grandson play the sport. Family was incredibly important to him and he made a point to attend and support his children and grandchildren’s activities; whether it was in a gym, a rink, a theatre, a school, or on a field. He always prioritized and supported his family.
Ricci’s patience and unconditional love was unmatched. He was kind and generous to a fault, going out of his way to help others, whether he knew them well or not. To be a part of his circle, blood or otherwise, was to be loved and cared for in a way words cannot describe. He fostered his caring for others throughout his life and within the brotherhood he had as a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge #217 in Orrington; and the Anah Shrine in Bangor where he served with the Photo Unit for a number of years. Meeting gracious parents whose children received necessary healthcare as a result of the Anah Shriners’ work moved him to tears.
Ricci is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Susan (Danforth) More whom he adored above all; daughter Erin (More) DeRoo and her husband, Philip of Bangor; son Andrew More and his wife, Nikki of Eddington; grandchildren, Brandon Rios, Thomas and Landon DeRoo, Kaydence and Rylee More, bonus granddaughter Madison Bean; sisters, Belinda Wright and Karen Burns; brother, Bruce More; special sister in law Marlene Libby, long-time family friend Diana Collins, and many special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Ricci was predeceased by his mother Ellen and brother, Eugene “Sonny” More III; and brother in laws Ken Libby and Edward Wright.
The family wishes to share their gratitude and respect with the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their insurmountable level of compassionate and thoughtful care of Ricci and his family. Special thanks go out to Sidney, Bailey, Ryker, Tedd, Tiffany, Josh, Robin, Diana, and Kellie.
