Obituary of Kara Elizabeth Vereault
Kara Elizabeth Vereault, 59, peacefully passed from this world on March 25, 2024, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Kara was born December 20, 1964, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to Donald Victor Vereault and Mary Anne (Dalton) Vereault. She grew up in Old Town, Maine, in a loving and fiercely loyal family. A 1983 graduate of Old Town High School, Kara was active on the field hockey team, which she was captain of, and on the Y Swim Team. Kara enjoyed playing chess with the chess club. After high school, Kara undertook an adventurous trip riding her bike solo cross country from Maine to California to raise awareness for diabetes. She also took an awareness-raising East Coast solo bike trip from Florida to Washington D.C.
Kara enjoyed genealogy, and the family could often count on her to have an obscure detail about the family history. Kara had a deep faith, and was very involved in Holy Family Parish in Old Town for many years. After moving to Bangor, she has been a communicant at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Church, for the last five years. She also enjoyed her volunteer time as a counselor at Camp Capella. She was an active supporter of Maine Right to Life, and traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the annual March for Life several times. Kara had a generosity of spirit and often visited her elderly neighbors in Old Town and new neighbors in Bangor. Kara enjoyed camp and fishing with her father.
Kara was predeceased by her parents, and her dear sister, Moira. She is survived by her four brothers: Don and wife Barbara, of Bangor, Jim and wife Charlene, of St. Augustine, Florida, Sean, of Arlington, Virginia, and Edmund, of Irving, Texas; and her loving niece Sarah and husband Kevin, of Sudbury, Ontario.
The family would like to thank the staff at EMMC ICU for their compassionate care during a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Food for the Poor, a charity that Kara supported. Donations can be mailed to Food for the Poor, 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, FL 33073, and please note that they are in memory of Kara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor. All are invited to a reception in the church hall following the service. Private committal at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town, will take place at a later date.
