Obituary of Robert Burnell Tweedie
BANGOR – Robert B. Tweedie Jr, 69, passed away December 12, 2023, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 21, 1954, in Rockland, Maine, the son of Robert and Beulah (Powell) Tweedie.
He grew up in Winterport and graduated from Hampden Academy. He played baseball, football and basketball all through school. After graduation, he went on to Husson College where he played on the baseball team. Bob loved most sports and enjoyed playing as well as watching. As an adult, he played softball in a men's league where they traveled all over the state to play in various tournaments. He also enjoyed bowling on Monday nights with his friends at Family Fun Lanes. He was an ASA softball umpire for many years, a basketball referee and most recently was a volleyball referee. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Bob was an avid golfer and golfed in the MSGA for many years. He especially loved to golf with his close friends and brother, Kenny Belcher of Winterport, Mark Boivin of Skowhegan, Dave Brewer of Bangor, David Dunham of Winterport, Bob Leighton of Milford and Gregg Tweedie of Hampden. Bob was very much a people person. Often he could be found at Hollywood Slots or the Bangor Raceway talking up a storm with his friends, Charlie Knowles and Terry McDonald. For the past 10 years, Bob and his wife, Pam enjoyed their yearly trips to Florida. They enjoyed spending time with his aunts and uncles, Arvilla and Mike Collins and Marie and Patrick Powell in Englewood. Minutes after the plane landed, Uncle Mike and Bob would be off to a golf course. Bob owned and operated JEJ’s Linen until he retired in 2022 and sold the business. JEJ's was located in Hampden for many years before he moved the business over to Brewer to Jeff's Catering and Event Center. After his retirement, he was a volunteer driver for Penquis Transportation Services.
Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamela (Samways) Tweedie of Bangor; one son, James R. Tweedie of Biddeford; two daughters, Jessica Ingraham and her husband, Jon of Bangor, and Erica Robbins and her husband, Eddie of Bucksport; five grandchildren, whom he loved and adored, Jackson and Brooklyn Ingraham both of Bangor, and Emma, Zoe and Beckett Robbins all of Bucksport; his mother, Beulah Tweedie of Hampden; his brother, Gregg Tweedie and his wife, Dawn Thomas of Hampden; his sister, Margaret “Marli” Cox and her husband, David of South Dennis, Mass.; two sister-in-laws, Lisa Oxton and her husband, Darryl of Lewiston and Kathy Davis and her husband, Terry of Buxton; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert Tweedie; brother, Gary Tweedie; and brother-in-law, James Samways.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Bob be made to Cancer Care of Maine, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402.
A celebration of life will be held 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Jeff's Catering and Event Center in Brewer, which was Bob's home away from home. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com
