Obituary of Kenneth E. Prescott
Kenneth E. Prescott 86, of Garland, Maine, passed away on August 3, 2023, with his sister Kathleen, companion Ada and his faithful dog Sophie by his side. Kenneth grew up in East Corinth, son of C. Pauline (Gerry) Prescott and Francis E. Prescott.
Kenneth attended East Corinth Academy. He then worked for local potato farmers before working 35 years as a member of the Laborer’s Union with many of those years responsible for the tool shed during the restoration at Great Northern Paper Mill. He also worked on projects in Bucksport, Hinckley and EMMC in Bangor. In addition to his union work at mills, he spent weekends working in the woods, cutting firewood, cutting pulp to take to the mills using heavy equipment. He learned these skills from his father as a young boy and is how he earned “pocket money.” He passed these skills on to both of his sons. He truly enjoyed the solace of working in the woods and being with nature. After retiring, Kenneth worked for the Town of Garland working to maintain roads during the summer, continuing to cut wood until just a couple of years ago, along with the many projects around his home.
He was a man of many talents. Beginning at an early age his love of cars and trucks—and the ability to “diagnose” and repair engine abnormalities. Kenneth loved to retore and refurbish old vehicles-especially his 1972 Chevy. He was an accomplished carpenter, building his camp, adding additions to his house and garage as well as a storage building.
Kenneth enjoyed going to country music “Jams” and was a member of the Central Maine Country Music Association. He loved the music and company of good friends. He was a faithful attendee of the Skowhegan Fair where he especially enjoyed tractor and truck pulling where both of his sons were participants. Kenneth’s trademarks are hard work, honesty and integrity. He had a dry sense of humor and was a jokester. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He was predeceased by his son Mark, brother Keith E. Prescott and by his sister-in-law Donna L Prescott. He is survived by his companion Ada, his son Michael of Hermon, sister’s Karen Prescott Lord (Stuart) and Kathleen Prescott, niece’s Allyson Welsh and Jennifer Clark: nephews, Scott, Eric and Keith M. Prescott and Stephen Lord.
