Obituary of Doris Luise Pelletier
Brewer - Doris Luise Pelletier, 81, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Bangor. She was born in Mannheim, Germany, on April 17, 1942, to parents Franz and Maria Bowitz.
Doris grew up in Germany where she met the love of her life, Peter Pelletier, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. After they were married in the U.S. they made their home in Brewer, Maine, where they lovingly raised their two sons, James and Michael. She was a dedicated and involved parent and was always her boys' biggest fan in the stands at their high school football games.
For Doris, making memories with family was everything to her and she enjoyed their many camping trips. She and Peter also traveled often, and their adventures took them to Hawaii, the Caribbean and all across Europe, including her homeland of Germany, among many other special places.
Doris was such a kind, thoughtful and welcoming person. It didn't matter how long it had been since you had seen her, yesterday or years, she always greeted you with a hug. She was a hardworking employee, serving as a dental assistant for many years and later working as a CNA for Bangor Area Visiting Nurses.
Volunteerism and a spirit of giving back to her community was important to Doris. She assisted with the National Folk Festival and Bangor Folk Festival, and she was a supporter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SCPA) and the Bangor Humane Society. One of the greatest sources of happiness to her was the companionship of the many dogs she rescued during her lifetime. She provided them all with a loving home and cared for them with her whole heart.
She was an expert at braiding rugs and enjoyed giving them away to family and friends or to be auctioned off to raise funds for her clubs like Brewer's Edelweiss Club and Central Maine Street Rods Club. Doris was a lifelong Catholic and member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in North Brewer.
Throughout her life, Doris was a collector of many things but the most meaningful joy came from her collection of friends. It would be impossible to list them all by name. Even while she was a patient, Doris was still making friends with the healthcare staff she interacted with, many of whom came to say goodbye in her final days.
Although she will be missed dearly, the tough health battles she fought so long and courageously endured are over, and knowing Mikey was there to greet her with open arms and reunited joy gives comfort to those who knew and loved her, as does this message: "Bis wir uns wiedersehen, werde ich im Himmel über dich wachen" (Until we meet again, I'll watch over you in Heaven).
Doris was predeceased by her parents; son, Michael Pelletier; and seven siblings. She is survived by?husband, Peter Pelletier; son, James Pelletier and partner, June; brother, Deiter Bowitz; sister, Inga Bowitz; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Riverview Cemetery, River Road, North Bucksport. All are invited to a reception and celebration of Doris' life with family and friends immediately following the service at the Edward K.
