Obituary of Laura June Largay
Laura “June” Largay, 79, passed away the evening of February 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. June was born February 24, 1943, the only daughter of Ruby (King) Heath and Colby J. Heath.
She was raised on a potato and dairy farm with her brothers Donald M. Heath and Richard Heath. Although June preferred inside tasks to the fields, she did handpick an impressive 89 barrels of potatoes in one day. She enjoyed the conversation with her Mom and other ladies on the harvester.
June moved to Bangor and worked in the kitchens for what is now Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was proud that she saved the down payment for her home with her modest wages that she would later purchase with her husband. June went on a blind date with Lawrence F. Largay and that decision turned into over 55 years of marriage. Larry and June raised their son Nicholas F. Largay and daughter Patricia “Tricia” A. Largay in Brewer. She enjoyed caring for her family, finding gifts for the Angel Tree and crocheting dog beds for donation. Her sweet hugs, kind words and smile will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
June was born premature, had polio at a young age, survived cancer, Covid and other challenges with the love of her family and her own determination. In her later years her limited mobility slowed her, but she still loved going out to eat, visiting and playing cribbage with her family. Her last game she played was a double skunk win against her husband. The folks at Stillwater Healthcare will be glad to hear that.
She was predeceased by her parents; baby daughter; brothers; nephew John C. Heath and many others. June is survived by her loving husband Larry; son Nick Largay and wife Kathy of Brewer; daughter Patricia Largay and husband Brett Feeney of Brewer. June always said her children married wonderful people. She was very proud of her grandchildren that she adored and was able to share many accomplishments with Rachel Largay and fiancée Mark Colson, Jr., Bryce Largay, and Colby Largay; a loved brother in-law Richard Largay; nephews, nieces and cousins. June put her love for family above all else. June enjoyed the company of many pets in her life including dogs Lassie, Cindy, Happy and Midnight, and her cat Goldie who will all be pleased to be reunited with her.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to the Bangor Humane Society in memory of her kindness and love.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com
