Mae Louise Ballanger Alexander
Bangor & Glenburn - Mae Louise Ballanger Alexander, passed away December 13, 2022 in Bangor at the age of 91 surrounded by her family. She was born August 29, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Ernest M. and Marion A. (Martin) Ballanger.
Mae was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lee F Alexander Jr., her brother Gerald Ballanger, her sister Barbara Johns and her cousin in-law Herschel McKinney. Mae is survived by her daughters, Cindy Leen and husband Francis, Brenda Mulligan and husband Kevin, Gayle Quirk and husband Tom; six grandchildren, Ashley Ellis and husband Dave, Sean Mulligan and wife Heather, Melissa Quirk-Coburn and husband Jon, Ryan Mulligan and wife Hilary, Chris Quirk and wife Katie, Emily Leen and friend Ron Andari; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Aubrey Coburn, Jackson and Jameson Mulligan, Harper Kiel, Julian Mulligan, and Lucas Quirk; her sister, Janet Brown and her brother, James Ballanger and his wife, Becky; cousins Mary McKinney, Evie Boyle, Trent McKinney, and many Alexander in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mae had a passion for travel and exploring. She lived in Florida and Connecticut with her parents who traveled for their profession. In her adventures, she escaped from a devastating Circus fire in Connecticut at the age of 13. She received the Leslie G. Dickerman scholarship award and attended Husson College. Mae met the love of her life, Lee, when she was six and loved him to the very end of her life calling his name as she passed away. They were married on Christmas Day in 1953. They lived in Coos Bay, Oregon, before moving back to Maine settling in Glenburn and Bangor. Mae was employed by Bangor Hydro where she held a management position within the business office. Upon retirement, Mae and Lee drove to Nevada each winter with family and friends, exploring along the way. Mae was an active and dedicated member of the Glenburn Evangelical Church for over 60 years. Mae will be remembered for her love of her beloved family and holiday gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her family. A special thank you to Dirigo Pines, the Veterans Home, and Beacon Hospice for their care of Mae and her family.
A service honoring Mae’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2022 at Glenburn Evangelical Church, 911 Hudson Road, Glenburn, Maine with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately following the service at the Glenburn Church. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor following the reception. Those who wish to remember Mae in a special way may send donations in her memory to the Glenburn Evangelical Church.
