Obituary of Allyson Marie Aucoin
BREWER--Allyson Marie Aucoin passed away at her home on November 9, 2022, after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Allyson was a graduate of Brewer High School in 2016 and went on to study at UMA, earning a degree as a Veterinary Technician in 2021. She was hired by Broadway Vet immediately out of school and was employed there until her death. Allyson loved animals. She picked the ‘purrfect’ profession. She volunteered at the Bangor Humane Society, fostering hundreds of kittens over the years, and adopting several of them along the way. She loved being part of that organization and had so much respect and admiration for everyone there.
Allyson was very artistic, always doodling and drawing anime. She also loved to sing. We will miss hearing her through the walls at all hours of the day and night. She was very athletic, being a member of the Barracuda swim team, playing softball for Brewer Rec, playing on multiple soccer teams in Bangor and Brewer, and tried her hand at many other sports through the Y and area rec programs. Allyson was also an avid gamer and loved Pokemon.
Allyson’s disease came on suddenly and unexpectedly. After graduating in May 2021, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July. She never complained or wanted anyone to feel sorry for her. She continued to work, while undergoing numerous surgeries and rounds of chemo. When asked how she could continue to work when she was so ill, her response was “because I love my job”. She continuously talked about how much she loved the people she worked with. We are so grateful for the love and support provided by all of the staff at Broadway Veterinary Clinic.
We have no idea why Allyson was taken from us so soon, but we find comfort in believing her calling is that of the rescuer in the “Rescuer at the Rainbow Bridge”; guiding the animals who passed who had never found their forever home, across the Rainbow Bridge.
We would like to thank everyone at Kindred Hospice, especially Emily-Ann and Pam, for helping Allyson through her transition and continuing to help the family cope with such a significant loss.
Allyson requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401, or to a newly created Allyson Marie Aucoin Vet Tech Memorial Scholarship fund at University of Maine at Augusta, c/o Joyce Blanchard, Exec. Director of Advancement, 46 University Drive, Augusta, ME 04330.
Allyson leaves behind her parents, Deb and Tom and younger sister Erin, who cannot imagine life without Allyson in it. She also leaves behind her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hodgson of Dixfield and many aunts, uncles and cousins scattered across the state and country. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Earle and Merita Aucoin of Orrington, and her maternal grandfather, Henry Hodgson of Dixfield.
A funeral service will be held 4 P.M., Thursday, November 17, 2022, at East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Rd., Orrington, officiated by Rev. Dr. Adam Soderberg, former pastor of EOCC and current Senior Pastor of South Congregational Church, Hartford, CT. A time of fellowship will take place in the church hall following the funeral.
