Obituary of Joyce M. Gardner

Joyce M. Gardner, 75, wife of Thomas M. Gardner, passed unexpectedly Sept 15, 2022 in Bangor. She was born Dec. 8, 1946 in Bangor, the daughter of Everett C. and Thelma M (Preble) Day.

The greatest joy of her life was being a mother, until her grandchildren came along and changed everything.  Her grandchildren gave her joy that everyone could see. Their special bond with MeMe will endure. You could practically hear her sigh with contentment when all her children and grandchildren were under one roof. The number of nights she spent away from her husband Tom (57 years) could be counted on one hand. Whether it was with homemade brownies, cookies or cakes, MeMe worked to spoil one and all. She always knew she was loved and those she loved knew it.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Corinth are three children, Stephen Gardner and his wife, Cheryl Levine of Washington, DC, Kevin Gardner of Corinth and Anngela Smith and her husband, Brian of Scarborough; two grandchildren, Abigail and Gabriel Smith both of Scarborough; four siblings, Darlene Moors and her husband, Danny of Corinth, Terry Day and his wife, Debbie of Corinth, Richard Day and his wife, Susan of Charleston and Diane Rollins and her husband, Michael of Corinth; several nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents and by a brother, Lloyd Day.

At Joyce’s request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Maine. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer. Messages and memories may be shared with her family on the tribute wall of kileyandfoley.com.
