Obituary of Orville A. Patterson

Orville A. “Sonny” Patterson, Jr., 65, died unexpectedly September 10, 2022 in Bangor due to injuries from a vehicle accident. He was born August 12, 1957 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Orville A. Patterson, Sr. and Doris (Kennedy) Patterson.

After high school, Sonny enlisted in the Navy, where he spent the next 9 years traveling the world on the P-3 Orion, tracking submarines. His service instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and a love for our country. He will be remembered with military honors when his remains are buried with his parents and brother in Aroostook County.

Sonny had the unique ability to light up a room the moment he walked in. His smile and laugh will live on through his children and in our memories of him. Anyone that knew Sonny, knew that he had a burning fire in his soul, he was a true lion amongst men, and had no problem letting everyone know that. Sonny had a profound love for his children, the open road, and late-night conversation.

His influence on anyone that was lucky enough to be around him was one of encouragement, strength, and perseverance. Although to a stranger, Sonny may have appeared a man of only strong will and stubborn nature, to those who knew him, he was a caring man that loved his family to no end – a trait that will be missed dearly.

Surviving are four children, son Shea Patterson, daughters Aimee Patterson, Renie Morrow, and Margaret Morrow; a sister, Bonnie Anderson and her husband, Andy, and a brother, Dennis Patterson and his wife, Michelle. He was predeceased by his parents and by a brother, Roland Patterson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the banquet room at Dysart’s on Broadway in Bangor, Friday September 23rd from 4-7pm. All are welcome to come greet the family and share stories. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Maine Veterans Project at https://maineveteransproject.org/donate/.
