Obituary of Marilyn King

It was a spring day when the world was blessed with this wonderful soul. Marilyn was born April 29, 1930, in LaGrange to Bruce and Dorothy (Stone) Mott.

They had a large family, where she was the fifth of nine children. She is survived by her siblings, Florence Milton of Milford, DE, Alden and wife Betty of Florida, Charlotte and husband Gerry Page of Jay, ME. She also has a very special cousin Dorothy Warren of Bangor, who will miss those spur of the minute lunches.  She was predeceased by her siblings Adelaide Blowers, Herbert Mott, Dolly Wood, Bob Mott, and Margery Walls.

She married Herbert King and together they had six children: Terrie and husband Bob McLaughlin , Linda Kimball, Carol King and partner Ron Hewes, Kenny King, Richard and Debbie King, and Amy King and partner Billy Bartlett.  She was predeceased by son-in-law Roger Kimball.

Her favorite role in life was that of grandmother. She was known as Gram, Grammy Mac, and GG. Her grandchildren are Krystal King, Kristopher and Erica King, Cory and Amanda Kimball, and Cassie Sherman and partner Chad Bailey. As her family continued to grow, she also relished the role as a great-grandmother. Her first great-grandchild Emily Mitchell (aka Petunia) has a very special relationship with her Gram.  Kaelynn Kimball, Blakelyn Sherman, Lucas Senberg, Bristol and Hudson King all love their Gram. Hudson is famous for wanting to call his GG. One of her favorite times was when the kids stopped by to visit her home in Lincoln. They brought her such joy.

Mom was loved by everybody who knew her….everybody! She was “gram” to a group of wonderful young men. When they were in school, she would get up in the morning and they could be sleeping on the couch, in the recliners, the chairs and maybe on the floor. Nothing made her happier than having these boys at her home. Today they are all grown with families of their own but they still hold her in that special place; Drew Pickering, BJ Crocker, Everett Houghton, Doob Dow, Charlie Bourlisse, Aaron Couloumbe, and Gerry Worster. Know that you are loved beyond measure.

Mom also had several young women who she welcomed into her world. Amanda, Ashley, and Nicki Jandreau, Jess Fogg, Cassie Pickering: each of you hold a space in her heart as well. She watched you from the time you were little and your love for her is visible. We all thank you for being in her world.

Mackie, as she was known, also loved the children of her siblings. Her nieces and nephews loved her sense of humor and her quick wit. She was famous for coming out with zingers that could shock a pirate. She loved that look of shock when she could get it and they all knew she did NOT want to be hugged. Well, this got a little better as she aged (it was all the greats and grandchildren who softened her attitude towards hugs).

She loved all her nieces and nephews but there are a couple that need special mention, Kathy and Micky Herbest from Milo. There was nothing she liked more than spaghetti on Turner Howe. Jolene French, she was so proud of you, even if it took the threat of a haunting. Brenda and Bud, there is just pure love.

And then you have the farmers. Mom was known for her cooking and she regularly made her famous Rum Cake and would deliver it to the fields. As she got older, the tradition of making the rum cake fell to her daughter Linda. It was discovered, after the reviews came out, that Mom used considerably more rum than the recipe called for, which is why it was so well liked.

There is so much more that could be said about Marilyn…

Marilyn requested, or rather demanded, no wake or funeral. A graveside service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Evergreen Cemetery, Summer St., Milo.  A picnic lunch will follow the service at the Gazebo by the river on Water St. in Milo.  A celebration of life will be held on July 9, 2022, at a time and location to be announced.
