Obituary of Ethel L. Pooler
BREWER – Ethel L. (Brown) Pooler, passed away at the age of 93 on April 28, 2022, at Stillwater Health Care in Bangor. She was born January 14, 1929, in Winterport, the daughter of the late Colby and Clara (Knowles) Brown.
She grew up in Winterport and moved to Bangor in her teens. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1947. Shortly after graduating she apprenticed at Vera’s Beauty Shop in downtown Bangor where she earned her beauticians license. She married her husband, Leon D. Pooler in 1954 and remained by his side until his passing on October 17, 1998. She raised her two children, Richard and Wendy, in their home in Brewer. She loved music, dancing, cooking, spending time at camp on Williams Pond, and most of all, caring for her children and grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren, Greg, Andy, and Ryan and was extremely proud of all three of them. Ethel was the cornerstone of her family and words cannot describe how much she will be missed. Ethel was a very independent woman and remained in her home in Brewer after Leon’s passing for 21 years despite never having a driver’s license. She would frequently be seen “running around town” with her late friend Lucy Macomber of Brewer where she loved to talk to anyone she knew.
Ethel is survived by her children Richard Pooler and his wife, Mary Ellen of Hampden; Wendy Carter and her husband, Michael of Orrington; grandchildren Greg Pooler, and his wife Stephanie of Carmel, Andy Pooler and his wife, Amanda of Lebanon; Ryan Carter and his wife, Samantha of Hermon; great grandchildren, Hannah, Lauren, Braden, Aubrey, and Camryn. She was predeceased by her husband Leon Pooler and her sister Alice May Brown.
Ethel’s family would like to thank the staff at Stillwater Healthcare for all the love and care that she received. Especially Mike, Lori, and Arlene, who she loved dearly, and who were a huge part of her daily care.
