Obituary of Anne P Flanagan
Anne P. Flanagan died March 22, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after some years of failing health. She was born May 27, 1929 in Presque Isle, Me to Amber R. (Akeley) Pettengill and Guy L. Pettengill.
Anne was a 1946 graduate of Caribou High School and went on to attend Hudson College where she met her husband, Thomas Flanagan. For 6 years she worked as a secretary at Farrar Furniture Co. After marrying Thomas in January 1951they began to raise their family, first in Bangor then through subsequent moves to Millinocket and Stamford Ct. Anne was a member of the Patawa Club while she lived in Bangor. In Millinocket she was very active in the Garden Club, she volunteered her time at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and she was a charter member of a close group of friends who formed a social club called the “Do- Nothings.” Anne was also a Cub Scout leader at her home for many years. In addition, she was proud to have been a member of the Maine Troop Greeters. Anne was a dedicated and excellent homemaker for her family. After her husband’s retirement she and Thomas settled in Brewer and began the fun of traveling throughout the United States in their RV. Anne and Tom were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brewer.
Anne is survived by her three children. Susan F. Stout and her husband James of Glenburn, Michael P. Flanagan and his wife Toni of Hollis Center, and Kevin P. Flanagan and his wife Sylvia of Brunswick. Anne leaves behind her 6 grandchildren; Karen Clark and husband Shawn of Hermon, Jeanne Bartlett of Harvard, MA, Andrea Killam and husband Tom of Bradford, Ashley Nye and husband Sean USMC of Clinton, Thomas Flanagan and Tamra of Clinton, Ryan Flanagan and wife Hannah of Topsham, along with 11 great grandchildren; Keeley and Savanna Clark, Landen and Emerson Bartlett, Aaron Killam, Olyvia and Kylie Nye, Jack and Arianna Flanagan, and Raegan and Henry Flanagan. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dwynal Pettengill of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., her sister Ina Fraser of Houlton, Me., and her two grandsons, Aaron J. Marquis USN and Matthew Flanagan.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Country Villa where Anne has lived for the past 6 years. We are grateful for their caring and loving dedication to Anne’s happiness and well-being.
A graveside service with committal and final commendation for Anne will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 1, 2022 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, (St. John entrance) 449 Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites all to a reception to follow from 11:30 - 3:00 in the Kenduskeag Room at the Seadog in Bangor. Arrangements trusted to Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer.
