Eva Senatro

Obituary of Eva Juanita Senatro

Eva Juanita (Holmes) Senatro began her journey early Tuesday morning, February 9, 2021, after a long illness. She passed peacefully at her home in Holden supported by family, who cared for her throughout her illness, as well as by her beloved cat, Domino.  Eva was born in Calais, Maine on August 2, 1940, to the late Michael and Susan (Snow) Holmes from the Sipayik Passamaquoddy Community.

She was raised on the Passamaquoddy Reservation at Sipayik and moved to Connecticut in her teens with the family.  She spent many years in and around Hartford, where many relatives and other Wabanaki also resided.  She was extremely proud of the Passamaquoddy blood that ran through her veins, including speaking her language.  She loved her family, camping and traveling with her late husband, Frank Senatro. She also loved attending tribal gatherings and collecting T- shirts from various events, which she wore proudly. She made the best macaroni and potato salads and would treat family with her salads for gatherings, holidays and birthdays.  She loved music, especially Janis Joplin and Johnny Cash.  She also loved to watch basketball with son, Dan.  At age 80, she was pretty knowledgeable about the NBA.  She was a candid person, who lived life on her own terms.

She leaves behind three children including Steve, Joan and Dan.  She cherished her children and was very proud of them. Her daughter, Joan, provided tender loving care during her illness. Grandchildren that will dearly miss her include Steven, Sienna, Alexis, Joey, Bobbi-Belle and Tiffany.  Special nieces Sharon Jordan and her husband Jeff, and great-niece Lauren, were always there for her, as well as Sharon’s crew including Johnny, Lauren, Charles (her Godson), Adrienne, Noah, Zoosap and Jonathan, who will miss her dearly.  Many other nieces, nephews and cousins will also remember her.  She is survived by baby brother, John (Johnnycake) Holmes and sister Charlene Tyrrell who will profoundly miss her.

The family extends their thanks to Beacon Hospice and Eva’s friend, Bonnie Sappier. Our mother’s wish was to be cremated and to have her ashes spread in the Great Smoky Mountains, where she cherished her trips and camping with Frank.
