Obituary of Cecelia Madonna Hickson
Orono--Cecelia (Donna) M. Hickson of Orono, Bangor, and Hampden passed away peacefully on October 7, 2020 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was born December 7, 1924, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, the eldest daughter of Helen E. (Lowe) Healy and William N. Healy.
Donna graduated from Eastern Maine School of Nursing in 1946 and was very proud of her time working as a nurse. Once she had her family she gave up her career to raise her daughters. Donna’s family was everything to her. She had a lively household that was always open to the 15th St. Bangor neighbors and their children. She will be fondly remembered for her many holiday parties and her craft sales. Donna loved creating, decorating, traveling and was a true fashionista. She was also a voracious reader and was known for her lending library. She led a long and full life. Her sense of humor and unfiltered comments later in life will be missed.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband J. Charles Hickson; sisters Mary Jane Healy and Katherine Healy; beloved grandson Nicholas Johansen. Donna is survived by her four daughters, M. Holly Bertrand and husband Douglas of Blue Hill, Elizabeth A. Keane and husband Robert of Missoula, MT, Johannah C. Johansen and husband William of New Durham, NH, Hilary N. Lamkin and husband Troy of Standish; grandchildren, Joshua Johansen, Hannah Keane, Holly Keane, Lily Lamkin, Charlie Lamkin; great-grandchildren Sophia, Liam and Olivia; brothers William Healy of Eddystone, PA and Michael Healy and wife Jan of Bangor; former special neighbor Beth Bamford of Biddeford.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Dirigo Pines and daughter Holly for her unwavering dedication and caregiving for the past 14 years. In lieu of flowers please perform a random act of kindness or donate to your favorite charity.
There will be no funeral due to the pandemic. The family will hold a private gathering in the future. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com.
