Today was my father's birthday.
Happy Birthday, Dad! You left us too early, but I'm going to give you the full 83 years. You earned it. There was never going to be a good time for you to go, but I'm glad I got an extra 22 years; I am glad I got to tell you "I love you" and "Angel loves you" the day you died.
And I'm glad that made it a point to tell you throughout your life that you are my hero. Throughout my childhood, it seemed there was nothing you couldn't do. Of course, there is a point in every child's life when he stops idolizing his parents because he realizes his parents are human, with faults and weaknesses, and usually a lot of both. But somehow, your faults and weaknesses only made me love and respect you more.
You are free now from doubt, pain, and toil, and I hope you can look down and see you are loved and missed. But most of all loved. It was what you taught me best.
