Obituary of Jerome E. Gonyer

Jerome E. Gonyer, 41, died Nov. 30, 2019 in Scarborough. He was born Dec 23, 1977 in Bangor, the son of Amelia L. (Mahon) Gonyer. Jerome attended elementary school in Carmel and attended middle school and high school at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation School Center in New Hampshire. Jerome lived in Scarborough after high school for many years at Residential Resources. Jerome enjoyed the outdoors as well as many other things. He participated in Special Olympics, going to concerts, trips to Hershey, PA and to Washington DC including going to the White House, water skiing, horseback riding and working on his computer. Jerome described himself as having a great sense of humor and liked to tell many jokes. He lived a full life and he loved and cared about his family, friends, staff and housemates. Jerome’s family gratefully thanks Dan McAllister for his loving care and understanding of Jerome’s condition and thanks Uncle Jim and other extended family. To really know Jerome was to love him.

Surviving are his mother, Amelia Gonyer of Carmel; one brother, Jeremy Gonyer and his wife, Leslie of Hudson and his niece and nephew, Cassie and Patrick Gonyer both of Hudson; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Francis and Winifred Mahon.

Family and friends may visit 4 – 6 PM Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where a service honoring Jerome’s life will be held at 6 PM as the visitation concludes. Burial will be in the spring at Highland Cemetery, Carmel. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt.
