Obituary of Lucille V. Fessenden

Lucille V. Fessenden, 98, wife of the late Clarence R. Fessenden, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 11, 2019 in Bangor. She was born Oct. 9, 1921 in Corinth, Maine, the daughter of Leslie G. and Doris E. (Walker) Chapman. 

Lucille was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and she was an awesome cook. When she was younger she enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and square dancing with her husband. Lucille and Clarence lived in Kenduskeag from 1975 to 1998 where they enjoyed farming strawberries and raspberries together. During their retirement, they moved to Lakeland, FL. They returned to Maine in 2007 and at one time had 5 generations of their family living in their neighborhood.  Lucille and Clarence were recently recognized as having been the longest married couple in the state, approaching 80 years this past Aug. 4, 2019 just after Clarence passed.

Surviving are their daughter, Lorraine Benton of Bangor; three grandchildren, Robin Benton Campbell and her husband, Kern, Tammi Benton Grant and Ernie and Stephen Benton Nystrom and his wife, Eva; 9 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Gene Crawford, who visited often. She was predeceased by her husband in July 2019 and by her son, Raymond “Bub” Fessenden in 2002 and by her siblings, Arlene LaFountain, Hilda Woods and Carleton Chapman.

A memorial service honoring Lucille’s life will be held at 10:30am on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Corinth Baptist Church, 331 Main Street, Corinth. A luncheon and fellowship time will follow and burial will be private. As an expression of sympathy, contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 331 Main St. Corinth, ME 04427.
