Obituary of Chaz Lee Gray

Levant & Penobscot--Chaz Lee Gray, 31, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 in Bangor.  He was born August 12, 1987 in Louisville, Kentucky. Chaz attended GSA High School, Class of 2006.  In 2009, he started work as a Correction Officer at Penobscot County Jail.  Chaz worked his way through the ranks and became a Corporal at the jail in 2018.  Recently, he received the Correction Officer of the Year Award, which was voted on by his peers.  Chaz was passionate about the statewide officer wellness program, CIT, and CISM.  In addition to his work, Chaz was highly involved in and passionate about martial arts, which he participated in at Young’s MMA in Bangor. 

Chaz is survived by and will be missed by wife Jessi Gray; son Riley Gray of Levant; mother Lisa May; sisters Christina Snow and husband Joseph of Penobscot, Sommer Anderson and husband Jarrod of Sedgwick; brothers William Gray and wife Barbara of Penobscot, Stephen Gray of Ellsworth; grandparents Dianne Jennings and Pete Webber; aunt and uncle Wendy Jenkins and Calvin Rigdon of Miami, Florida; a niece and several nephews; many friends and coworkers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chaz’s memory may be made to a trust set up for his son Riley Gray.  Contribution can be made via GoFundMe by searching for “Memorial for Cpl. Chaz Gray.”

The family invites relatives, friends, and colleagues to share memories and refreshments 5-8 PM, Tuesday, August 13, at Jeff’s Catering, 15 Littlefield Rd., Brewer.  A graveside service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, August 14 at Bay Cemetery, 21 North Penobscot Rd., Penobscot.  Immediately following the graveside service, a gathering will be held at Bay View, 28 Bayview Rd., Penobscot.  Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
