Obituary of Roselle Campbell

BREWER – Roselle (Turner) Campbell, 89, died peacefully in her sleep June 16, 2019 in Boynton Beach, FL, with family by her side. She was born on November 26, 1929 in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Rose (Keenan) Turner and John “Jack” Turner. Roselle grew up on Pearl Street in Bangor. As a teenager in the 1940’s, she worked for W.T. Grant in Bangor as an elevator operator as well as Armour Meats to help support her family, until her marriage on December 26, 1949 to Patrick H. Campbell, Sr., her husband of more than 68 years.

Roselle was now a career Navy military spouse, moving with her growing family, everywhere from Quonset Point, Rhode Island to Pensacola and Jacksonville Florida, during her husband’s many deployments at sea. Finally, in the mid-60s, during the Civil Rights years, they were stationed in Meridian, Mississippi, bearing witness to many volatile and historic events, including participation in the rebuilding of a local Baptist church after a racially-motivated arson burned the church. In 1968, they retired from the Navy, and returned to Brewer, Maine to launch Campbell's Vending Service, where Roselle served as dispatcher for the well-known family business.

Roselle is survived by five of her children, Kathy Gagnon and her husband Joe of Brewer; Steve Campbell and his wife Patty of Brewer, Mike Campbell of Bangor; Carolyn Campbell of Boynton Beach, Florida; Rosemarie Eggert and her husband, Mike of South Burlington, Vermont; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roselle was predeceased by her husband, Patrick H. Campbell Sr.; sons Patrick Campbell Jr., John C. Campbell, an infant daughter, Roselle, and infant son, Douglas.
