Obituary of Ronald James Savoy
BANGOR – Ronald Savoy, 79, passed away June 24, 2019 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. The husband of Dianne (Dickey) Savoy, Ron was born December 16, 1939, son of Perley F. and Marcella (Partridge) Savoy.
Ron was a graduate of Orono High School where he was captain of the football team. He was self-employed for most of his life, retiring in 2006. Upon retirement, he spent several winters in Clearwater Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed relaxing by the pool during the day and watching the sun set into the ocean in the evening. Ron, who enjoyed politics, aviation, and history, had a thirst for knowledge matched only by his remarkable memory. He enjoyed many trips to Washington, DC where he visited memorials and museums and had a very special final tour of the Pentagon.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 47 years are four children, Cheryl and her husband Dan Jamison of Carmel; Debbie Cowperthwaite of Millinocket; Sean Savoy of Bangor; Rhonda and her husband Matt Walker of Arlington, VA; sister Pearl Kelley of Oklahoma City; brother, Ernest Savoy of Glenburn; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, James Edward, and three brothers, Raymond, Clayton, and Thomas. The family would like to thank Cancer Care of Maine for their wonderful care, compassion and kindness during our Dad’s journey and a very special thank you to Northern Light Hospice and his hospice nurse, Tracy, as well as our Dad’s nurse. She was our family’s rock in the final days.
