Obituary of Joan Marie Hunt
Bangor--Our beautiful songbird has flown away. Joan Marie Fahey Boyce Hunt was born July 30, 1932, in Bangor, Maine, and passed away April 20, 2019 at a local healthcare facility.
Jo was adventurous, fun loving and kind. She attended Bangor-Brewer schools and completed a nursing program at Bangor State Hospital. As a local television personality with “Curley O’Brien and the Top Hands” she sang and played “bass fiddle” and toured Maine and Canada with her then husband Philip “Curley” Boyce.
After she and her husband Ralph Hunt moved to Arizona she worked for Kaiser Industries, Phoenix Police Department and a local physician. Jo moved back to Maine to care for her mother and sister but always longed for the warmth of Arizona. She taught line dancing classes until she was 84.
Some fond memories of Jo: “I pronounce my name Jo--an!”; whenever In The Mood would play on the radio she and her sister would jump up to dance; circling all Don Johnson shows in her son’s TV Guide; impromptu line dance lessons at her nephew’s wedding reception; sharing hot cooked meals with a Husson College student; removing snow from all her neighbor’s cars, staying up late to watch horror movies with her nephew.
Jo was predeceased by her mother Ruby S. (Donald) Porter and father Joseph (Alice) Fahey; sister Barbara Porter; brothers Donald Porter and Dwight Fahey. She is survived by son Harry Eth; brother James Fahey; sisters Dorothy Russell and Margaret Fowler; special nieces Dolores Gramley, Vikki Porter; nieces and nephews; very, very special friends, Pat England, Tricia Holmes, Levi and Jana Gray.
The family would like to thank Linda McNeil and Amy Bouchard for their kindness, the staff of Ross Manor for their wonderful care, and the Beacon Hospice nurses for their understanding and support. The family appreciates the friends and acquaintances that have shared their stories of Joan with us.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 PM, Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. Private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, at a later date. Messages and memories may be shared with the family at kileyandfoley.com
