Obituary of Joseph Glenn Fearon

Brownville & Boise, ID--Joseph Glenn Fearon was born November 8, 1938 in Brownville Junction, the last of four children to Joseph and Nora (Boyce) Fearon. He graduated high school from Brownville, where he played basketball and baseball and was recognized at an early age for his stamina, intense dedication and drive. After high school he worked as an apprentice for CP Rail in Montreal and went on to complete a gunsmithing degree from Colorado School of Guns, something he was proud of and continued as a hobby until late in life. He had an incredible insight and aptitude for all things mechanical. He patented several rail gang improvements, most notably the ballast door, freeing rotation of discharge control door on particulate material, method for laying railroad ties, rail handling device. His expertise and drive made him legendary in the steam locomotive world. He founded Morrison Knudsen Rail Systems Group and was the company's president. He traveled the world to work on Railroading projects where he left a unique impact on everyone he encountered. In 2008 he was appointed VP of Business Development and Engineering for American Motive Power. Joe Fearon was a giant in the railroad game and truly one of a kind. Twice in his life he had the misfortune of being diagnosed as permanently paralyzed and through his determination and fierce mind he was able to will himself to regain mobility. His grit and determination inspired many. He is survived by daughter Heidi; son Hunter; grandchildren Isabel and Gabrielle; sister Maxine; several nieces, nephews and his dog Shadow. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service honoring his life will be held 1 PM Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Brownville Junction United Methodist, Brownville Junction.
