Obituary of Paul M. White
Hermon—Paul M. White, formerly of Hopewell Junction, NY, died at home in Hermon January 31, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Rev. Melvin and Ruth (Webb) White.
Following his graduation from high school, Paul proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and then began a 30 year career with IBM. Following his retirement from IBM, Paul established his own small business, “Temporarily Yours”, specializing in home and small business maintenance and repairs. Paul was an enthusiastic, generous and committed volunteer throughout his lifetime. He served as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver in Hopewell Junction and served as an assistant chief of the East Fishkill Fire Dept. Following the terrorist attack of 9/11, Paul enlisted in the New York State Volunteer National Guard and served as a Sergeant with the security forces.
A true “man for all seasons”, Paul was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, ham radio operator, woodworker and photographer. He enjoyed flying and held his pilot’s license for many years. He also built and flew his own radio controlled model airplanes. Since moving to Maine, he has been working on a scale model railroad based upon Northern Maine Junction. While residing in New York, Paul and his wife Marylyn took pleasure in owning, caring for and riding their horses. Their family in Maine includes dogs, Duffy and Shane, both of whom will miss their best friend. Paul’s interest in family history sparked him to trace his family roots back to 1603.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Marylyn Quilty White; sister Lanita White of St. Joseph, MO; daughters Jennifer Penney of Eliot, ME, and Susan Ahl of South Berwick, ME; grandchildren, Ryan LeMire, Tyler, Jordan and Aaron Penney, Griffin and Andrew Simmons; great-granddaughter, Audrey LeMire; sister-in-law Barbara White. Paul was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah (White) Lee of Rochester, NH; brothers Arthur White of Oakland, CA and James White of Hermon, ME; stepmother Audrey White of Morrisville, VT.
The family extends special thanks to the dedicated, caring and compassionate doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer and Hospice of Eastern Maine.
