Obituary of Alan L. Merchant

Levant—Alan Lewis Merchant, 55, passed away in his sleep May 13, 2018. He was born September 20, 1962, the son of Lewis and Barbara (Seymour) Merchant.

Alan worked a number of years at Butler's Auto Sales and, most recently, at Kontio's Automotive Repair in Hermon. Alan's passion in life was the fire service, which he was involved with for 43 years. He was a firefighter with the Town of Levant starting as a junior firefighter and working his way up to Captain, a position he held at the time of his death. He worked a number of years as a call member of the Orono Fire Department and had recently started working alongside the Capital Ambulance personnel assigned to the Levant Ambulance. Alan touched countless lives during his service.

He was predeceased by his father and sister-in-law Deborah Wheeler. Alan is survived by his wife of 32 years Victoria (Willis); children Michael and Matthew Merchant; mother Barbara Merchant; sisters Christine Merchant, and JoAnn Ormsby and husband Raymond; in-laws Seth and Beverly Adams, Roger Adams and Wayne Adams; many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his brothers and sisters in public safety.

A memorial service with firefighter honors will be held 1 PM, Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Levant Fire Department, 3917 Union St., Levant. A reception will follow the service.
