Obituary of Joseph R. Hebert
Joseph R. Hebert, 97, passed away September 19, 2017, in Bangor. He was born November 27, 1919, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of Ida (Perreault) and Jean-Baptiste Hebert.
Joe was the last surviving sibling of four sisters and seven brothers. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in July, 1937, later enlisting in the US Army in September, 1939. He later transferred to the Army Air Corps, now the US Air Force. While stationed in Texas he met Veda Jo Holland, and they married May 3, 1945. While stationed at Dow AFB in Bangor they decided it was where they would settle and raise their family. He retired from the Air Force in 1964, and a year later started working for the US Postal Service in Bangor, until retiring in 1983. Joe was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish and a past member of many organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Joe was predeceased by his wife, Veda, in 1972; daughter, Eva Marie, in 1955; and daughter, Tammy Lynn, in 2003. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph, Jr. and Rebecca Hebert of Johnston, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Rose Ann and Danny LesPerance of Sun City West, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Thomas Powell of Palmyra, VA; daughter, Sharon Ann Ingerson of Del City, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Robert Platt of Brewer, daughter and son-in-law, Marla Ann and Joseph Narviz of Arlington, TX; special niece and husband, Laurie and Al Langenburg of Surprise, AZ; 13 grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special ‘thank you’ to the director and staff of the Country Villa Retirement Inn independent living facility for making his last months comfortable.
A graveside committal service will be held 11 AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 449 Ohio St., Bangor. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. Messages and memories of Joe may be shared with his family at kileyandfoley.com.
