Obituary of Albertine T. Phillips

Bangor, Caribou & Fort Kent - Albertine Theriault Phillips, 88,  passed away on August 14, 2017, after an extended period of declining health. She was born at home in St. John, Maine to Joseph and Annie (Martin) Theriault on June 19, 1929. She graduated from Fort Kent High in the secretarial program and worked for the telephone company and Fort Kent Drug, and later as bookkeeper for the business she shared with her husband.  On August 28, 1954, Albertine married Robert Phillips from Caribou whom she met while he was working on construction of the new hospital in Fort Kent. She was a devoted mother to her children and believed “homemade was best “ whether making cookies or sewing unique Halloween costumes. In more recent years she enjoyed attending the many activities and events that her five grandchildren were involved in.  Albertine will be remembered as a very caring person who tended to the needs of several of her ailing relatives throughout the years. She was an avid cook who was happiest preparing for family barbecues at their camp on Cross Lake in the summer or for holiday gatherings at home in Caribou. Her chicken stew with dumplings, baked beans, fiddleheads with ployes, spritz cookies and raspberry cookies and pies are among her tasty treats that will be missed. Recently she began coordinating recipe collections to pass on to the next generation of family members. 

   Albertine is survived by her daughters, Carol Newcombe of Brewer; Gayle Baber and her husband Brett of Veazie, and their children Lindsay, Matthew, Kristian and Makenzie; Patricia Phillips and son, Graham Roeber of Yarmouth; her son David Phillips of Portland, her youngest daughter, Lori Phillips of Rolla, Missouri; her sisters Esther Bell of Caribou and Lorraine Jacques of Tuscon, Arizona, several nieces and nephews who fondly referred to her as “ma tante” or Aunt Al and many friends of her children to whom she was a “second mom”. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Beth Ann, her sisters Florence, Edna and Nora and her brother Leonard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 PM Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Albertine’s life and share fellowship immediately following Mass in the church hall downstairs. Committal services will be 1 PM Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. The family is grateful for the loving care extended to Albertine at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Winterberry Heights and the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Albertine’s memory may do so to Shepherd’s Godparent Home, P.
