Agatha “Aggie” M. Guthrie
Bangor-- Agatha “Aggie” M. (Schiller) Guthrie, 94, passed away May 12, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Home. She was born June 7, 1922 in Chicago IL, the daughter of Charles and Mae Schiller.
Aggie served as an Army nurse during WWII, where she met her husband, William C. Guthrie Sr. They married in Germany after the war. He brought her to So. Brewer, where she would live for 71 years. She worked as an R.N. in various area hospitals, the longest at Dow Air Force Base, where she worked until it closed. She then went to Cutler Health Center at the Univ. of Maine in Orono until her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in South Brewer, sang in the choir, was a member of the Sodality and was a lector. Above all in her life, she loved God.
Aggie was predeceased by her husband William, Sr., by a brother Charles, by her sister, Mary Kay Tiester of Chicago and by a son-in-law, Dana Pollard. She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Pollard, Margaret Guthrie, Jerome Guthrie all of Brewer and by William C. Guthrie, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Hopkinton, MA; sister, Bernadette Giese and husband, Emil George; sister-in-law, Kathleen Schiller; many nieces and nephews.
The family gratefully thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans Home for the great care they provided to Aggie.
Family and friends are invited to visit 2 - 4 PM Tues., May 16, 2017, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wed., May 17, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa’s Church, 425 S. Main St., Brewer. Burial follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Maine Veterans Home Activity Fund, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
