Obituary of Mary L. Neill

Mary L "Mary Lou” Neill Orrington and Brewer - Mary L "Mary Lou” Neill, 86, wife of Robert E. Neill, died peacefully on November 14, 2016 in Bangor surrounded by her family.  She was born in Bangor, August 27, 1930,  the daughter of Raymond P. and Emma F. Colcord Berry.  Mary Lou was a graduate of Brewer High School and Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She started her nursing career working in the operating room at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She worked at Brewer Fabric Shop,  and as an orthodontist’s assistant.  Her many loves included sewing, knitting, baking, traveling around the country with her husband and friends, and spending time at her summer home on Toddy Pond.  She found great joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 63 years,  Bob, the love of her life; her five children, Jane Neill and her husband Gregory Curfman, Karen Mc Donald, Laurie Knowles and her husband Vaughn, Nancy White and her husband Michael, Robert J. Neill and his wife Donna;  nine grandchildren, Adam Knowles, Erin Twitchell, Laura McDonald, David McDonald, Phillip White, Amanda Hayes, Geoffrey Curfman, Joel Neill and Abby Neill, and seven great grandchildren with another on the way.  Surviving siblings are Constance Looke, Robert Reardon and his wife Rose, Sharon Graves and her husband Robert, in- laws Barbara Berry, Thomas and Barbara Neill, and Imogene Neill. She was predeceased by her parents,  her stepfather John Reardon, her brother John Berry, and her sister Sandra Penrod McRight. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, on Thursday, Nov 17, 2016, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 436 South Main St., Brewer.  A time of friendship and refreshments will be held immediately following the Mass in the church center.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westgate Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer's Center, 750 Union St, Bangor, Maine 04401. We wish to thank all of the Westgate Staff for the warm and compassionate care they gave Mary Lou.  Burial will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
