Obituary of Roger Byron Kingsbury

SSgt. Roger Byron Kingsbury, USAF (Ret.), 81, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2016, at Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born in Bridgewater, ME on Nov. 10, 1934, to Fred N. and Dorothy (Finnemore) Kingsbury. Roger moved from Bridgewater to Lynn, MA as a child. He graduated from Lynn English High School. He served proudly in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1974. Roger and his wife lived for a number of years in the Plattsburgh, NY area, where he worked for the bowling lanes on the military base and at Klein's All Sport. He enjoyed football and baseball, and was an avid bowler. He also enjoyed woodworking, making beautiful furniture, and was able to fix most anything. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Edward. He is survived by wife Mary Catherine "Cathy" (Whitty) Kingsbury; sons Eric and wife Tanya, Paul and wife Katie, Edward and wife Stephanie, James and wife Lisa, Earl and wife Lorraine; daughter Wendy Massey; sister Erma Hollingsworth; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roger is also survived by many in-laws that meant a lot to him, especially sister-in-law Elizabeth Davis and aunt Mary Anna Whitty. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Maine Veterans Home Bangor, especially the wonderful staff of B Unit for their great care of Roger the past two years. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 9 AM Thursday, Oct. 6 at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Maine Veterans Home, Activities Department, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401.
